Cybersecurity: Protecting Sensitive Information Virtual Class

Class number 2 in the series will focus on protecting sensitive information. With special guest Jonathan Cantor, Deputy Chief Privacy Officer at DHS, Jonathan Meyer and Townsend Bourne will explore the Privacy Act as well as laws applicable to government contractors relating to the protection of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and other sensitive data. This course also will examine the FAR Privacy Act clause as well as training requirements for government contractors relating to PII and other sensitive unclassified information. Agency-specific regulations relating to the protection of sensitive data also will be covered.

Dates and Topics

This series, taught by two experts in the field, will walk participants through the most important issues facing government contractors as they navigate the fast-changing issues of cybersecurity. Starting with a survey of the current threats confronting all companies in the cyber world, and ending with a session about how to deal with a breach of your systems, this series will also delve into the new government contracting rules relating to cybersecurity, as well as the new twists on existing technology and privacy laws in light of today’s cyber events.

Augmented by guest lecturers from government and the private sector, this webinar series will combine teaching of the key rules with war stories from the front lines and practical advice from experienced practitioners.

Jonathan E. Meyer is a partner in the Government Contracts, Investigations & International Trade Practice Group at Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton, LLC, and a member of the Privacy and Cybersecurity Team. Prior to joining the firm in 2016, he was Deputy General Counsel of the Department of Homeland Security where, among other things, he was charged with responding to breaches of DHS data held by contractors and assisting in the response to the breach at the Office of Personnel Management. Townsend L. Bourne is a senior associate in the Government Contracts, Investigations & International Trade Practice Group at Sheppard Mullin, and a member of the Privacy and Cybersecurity Team. She is the author of numerous articles relating to cybersecurity and government contracting.

Continuing Education Credits

1.5 CLE/ 1.5 CPE (Finance)/0.15 CEU credits may be earned for this course. This course is recommended for 2.0 CLP credits.
