Government contracting takes the traditional, yet complex, rules of intellectual property (IP) and turns them on their head.  Questions about IP ownership, automatic licensing, and infringement are made more complex by contractual provisions that grant the government privileges to utilize contractor IP in ways uncommon in the commercial marketplace.  Differences between the relatively open FAR IP provisions, and the stricter provisions of the DFARS further complicate questions about IP licensing.  Taught through lecture, practical examples and case studies, Jeff Newman’s A Practical Guide to Intellectual Property in Government Contracting discusses this complexity, providing registrants clarity, and clear principles to follow when dealing with IP issues in government contracting.  Over the course of four 90-minute sessions, this training will teach contractors how government contracting treat patents, technical data rights, and software.  Jeff will also provide clear rules on properly marking and protecting sensitive contractor IP.  By the end of the course, students will learn a 30-second solution for managing the majority of IP issues in government contracting, will understand how government contracting handles IP ownership and licensing, and will know how to properly mark their sensitive materials.

Join Jeff for four interactive sessions, as he uses practical examples, case studies, and his wealth of experience to cover the following topics:

  • “Big Three” Forms of Intellectual Property in Government Contracting
    • Patents
    • Technical Data
    • Software
  • Copyright in Government Contracting
  • IP for Commercial Items and Software
  • Markings and Protecting Sensitive Information
  • Licensing under the FAR and DFARS
  • IP and Subcontracting
  • Infringement Remedies in Government Contracting
