If you’re a commercial company interested in contracting with the Federal Government, then you’ll want to understand the in’s and out’s of how the government contracts for commercial items under FAR Part 12—and also have a good grasp on the government’s simplified acquisition procedures under FAR Part 13.  These two parts of the FAR are at the heart of some of the most “commercial-like” approaches to contracting that the government uses, but there are still some pitfalls that commercial entities (particularly those that haven’t done work for the government before) need to be aware of.
